Chicago inched closer to hosting the 2016 Summer Games today as the U.S. Olympic Committee announced it will float a bid and Chicago organizers followed up by saying they have raised the $25 million in private donations needed to back a bid.
After an evaluation process that lasted more than a year, the USOC chose to put forth a candidate in an international field likely to include Tokyo; Rome; Doha, Qatar; and Rio de Janeiro.
Chicago and Los Angeles are the finalists to represent the United States.
The USOC will pick its American city at an April 14 board meeting.
