I understand that the current official record stands at 9.77secs, jointly held by Asafa Powell and Justin Gatlin. However, Ben Johnson ran almost that in 1988 (albeit with a little help) and, having achieved the same time four times now, I figure these guys must have beaten it in training or wind-assisted. (Also, I can imagine that the second 100m of Michael Johnson's 1996 world-record time was pretty quick...) So, can anyone say definitively,or at least does anyone have any ideas: what's really the fastest anyone has ever run 100m?
