I asked this question yesterday and agree 100% with an answer I received that is as follows:

I think it is more likely Chicago would get it for two reasons:

(1) Los Angeles have hosted the Olympics twice already, in 1932 and recently in 1984. It would only be logical that Chicago would be given the opportunity to host the 31st Olympiad.

(2) The 1904 Olympic Games was originally scheduled for Chicago but relocated to St Louis by President Roosevelt at the time. This is because a dispute broke between the mayors of Chicago and St Louis, which wanted the Games to be part of the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition. This change proved to be a mistake as the Games in St Louis in 1904 became a "side show" to the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition. In addition organisation of the 1904 Games was worser that that of Paris 1900 (the worse Olympic Games). Anyway, I would think the USOC would have to look at this and make the simple decision to give Chicago a shot to host the games in 2016 to compensate for the disasterous mistake made by Roosevelt in 1904, which could of put an end to the Olympics overall.

Neither. The facilities in LA are too outdated, and nobody's willing to pay for renovations. Chicago doesn't have the facilities, period, and travel would be a nightmare between events.

Of all US cities, San Francisco remains the best option.

Personally, I feel that they should be held in L.A. It just seems a nice place to hold it...
