I am just starting out in boxing (had one taster session at a boxing gym last night!) and was told I had a 'brawling' style, and that this doesn't really link in to an amateur ethic.

I am 5 10" and 170lbs, slim build, and the trainer says to concentrate on my footwork and dexeterity. He said my style is more suited to a heavyweight professional from 50 years ago?!

I hit hard and relatively slowly although I can work up three punch combos. I don't aim to KO neccesarily but like each punch to do some damage. I tend not to get out of th way of incoming punches but instead keep my chin down and barrel in to them as I take impacts well. My favourite move is very short-range hooks to the body and poweful longer hooks to the head; but I get uncomfortable too far away from my target. I think it's called 'toe to toe'?

I would like to keep this style but is there a place for it at amateur level? Can you recommend any fighters with a similar style I mightbe able to look up?

Thanks!

It is my dream to represent Britain at the 2012 Olympics, having never boxed before- I know this sounds far-fetched but bear with me.

Would it be possible to reach the required level in time if a place in the Olympics was my sole aim? I am already as fit as I can be (10 mile run every day, two hours at the gym follwed by a mile-long run) but have bever boxed, which I intend to start in the summer.

I am already 21 and will be starting around the time I turn 22.

Is it possible?

Thanks!

Mayweather recently hinted that he might like to fight Hatton after he beats Oscar de la Hoya this May.

Do you think Hatton would have any chance against Mayweather? I would think it would be an easy fight for Pretty Boy Floyd.

I just need some info on where you can get boxing lessons and what to expect. Like moves, workouts and other things that can build vision, mostly stamina, and strength.

I heard i radio talkshow bring this up because they only cover MMA and Boxing. The guy was saying that because of all the money and the monopoly that pay-per-view has on big time fights, the American public has pretty much lost interest in it. I have to say that i agree with that. I haven't watched a ppv bout since 1994 which was a Tyson fight. Aside from watching the semi-final fights on "The Contender", i have really no interest in anything related to boxing, especially now that MMA is finally syndicated on cable. I think that there are lots of good fighters out there, but with greedy managers and HBO and other ppv hogs, there it's rare to see a quality match up. Could this signify the end of American boxing?

Why do people automatically assume that Muhammad Ali was past his peak after he was stripped of his title by the government at age 25? It doesn't seem fair to Ali to pass such a judgment. Ali was still only 28 when he came back and fought Jerry Quarry in 1970. 28/29 is peak years for any athlete. Maybe Ali wasn't quite as fast, but he was still rusty since he hadn't boxed in 3 1/2 years due to his forced layoff.

I dunno, it doesn't seem fair to say Ali's prime ended when he was only 25 years of age. I say he still was at his peak for a few years afterwards (1970-1971, maybe up until the Foreman bout) Maybe he wasn't quite as fast, but he was also bigger and stronger and had more muscle to carry. His defence was alot better as well.

to the school of boxing; how many other fans of the sweet science are of the opinion that European title holders need to come over to the U.S. to test their mettle against the the best fighters America has to offer? It's obvious that the best competition in the sport is here in the U.S. Why is it with the exception of a few that the European fighters seem to hide in the comfy confines of Europe and fight handpicked opponents. Agree or disagree?
