ESPN did a study maybe a year ago. They looked at the sport that required the greatest athleticism. They looked at reflexes, hand to eye coordination, speed, endurance and a host of other factors and determined that Boxing was the #1 sport. You could include that in the report because alot of uninformed people think it is just a "fight' with two guys slugging each other but in fact it is a "sport" where it takes many years to master and refine the skills.

It is a risky contact sport no doubt. It is a risk that is understood by participants. It is a risk that they take with free will. Some because they enjoy the challenge others for economic reasons or a combination. Boxing is not the only risky sport though - football and hockey are risky. If you stop boxing then you need to stop football, hockey, wrestling, mma, well maybe even baseball.

It does have some positive aspects that are not reported. Maybe some youth who otherwise would be in trouble on the streets have the option of boxing as an escape. Hopkins turned his life around with boxing as his career choice is just one of many examples.

Good luck with your report.

Absolutely not. Boxing has been around for years and while it started with bareknuckle boxing and limitless rounds, it has evolved for the fighters saftey. The use of gloves and less rounds is a prime example of this.

If you were going to do an essay about banning sports, look more towards the UFC (although I love it). That is ten times more brutal than boxing.

Also, curling ... that ridiculous Olympic Event. :)

Of course not. If people were forced to box, then yes, it should be banned, but all boxers fight and train because they have a passion for it, and like all other martial arts and martial sports, boxing is regulated combat in a controlled, safe environment, and all fighters know the risk they take.

If it were banned, it would beg the question "Why wouldn't people be allowed to practice fighting?" and there would be many arguments about the right to practice self-defense, etc.

no because its turned the lives around of a lot of people and the people who do box, know the risks their taking, they know what could happen so its not like they're unaware.boxing is one of the oldest sports we have, and if you look at the numbers that boxing rates the lowest in sport fatalities.the people who do say its should be banned are usually people who don't really know that much about the sport.
