petty is not in this question because he was clearly the best in his era.the facts.for the 3 and 24.
first full season for the 3 '79;age 28.1 win ,rookie of the year 7th in the pts.missed four races due to injury.
for the 24 '93 age 21 no wins 14th in pts.
3 won first cup in 80'only driver to win ROTY and cup back2back.81 team was sold and had to find new team.
the 24 took 3 years to win a title in '95.has always been with the same team.the 24 has raced since he was 5 yrs old.the 3 was not allowed to race till he was 16yrs.
a few other tidbits.gordon equaled,not beat the record for most wins in a season in the modern era with 13.youngest driver to win the cup.earnhardt won 10 straight 125 quilifiers at daytona.also has four IROC titles. a race that is more balanced then any nascar race has been.
I say Earnhardt because he had to fight for everything he got.
Gordon is #2 just because he hasn't had to face the adversity that Dale did.

Who is ready to watch Jeff Gordon win another one? It should be a good race to watch today. Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart need to make a move today or thier hopes of another cup will wash away.

that earnhardt jr is 13 in points and earned $4,616,820 this year. he never won a race totaled his car how many times blew it up a few times. dont you think the bum is just a tad over payed. should deduct a few repairs out of his pay. why is it the guy in last place who no one ever heard of makes more in 1 race to finish last than 10 average familys make all year. i think i should take up driving in circles the pay is pretty good

What if Kurt drove the 06 Dodge for the first 5 races of 2008 and Roger Penske put Sam Hornish in the number 2 car? Hornish would take advantage of the 2's ownership points, Busch could then use his past champion's provisional to guarantee qualification.
