petty is not in this question because he was clearly the best in his era.the facts.for the 3 and 24.
first full season for the 3 '79;age 28.1 win ,rookie of the year 7th in the pts.missed four races due to injury.
for the 24 '93 age 21 no wins 14th in pts.
3 won first cup in 80'only driver to win ROTY and cup back2back.81 team was sold and had to find new team.
the 24 took 3 years to win a title in '95.has always been with the same team.the 24 has raced since he was 5 yrs old.the 3 was not allowed to race till he was 16yrs.
a few other tidbits.gordon equaled, not beat the record for most wins in a season in the modern era with 13.youngest driver to win the cup.earnhardt won 10 straight 125 quilifiers at daytona.also has four IROC titles. a race that is more balanced then any nascar race has been.
I say Earnhardt because he had to fight for everything he got.
Gordon is #2 just because he hasn't had to face the adversity that Dale did.

Each were/are best in their own era. Earnhardt will always be more popular because of everything he did to promote the sport and make NASCAR what it is today.

in my opinion, all human beings's basically jealous that he has the main suitable stats. you are able to observed he has a sucky racing profession yet that's basically an opinion and he has the main suitable stats of any Nextel Cup driver presently racing. the only human beings to have greater championships are the King, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. Jeff Gordon is basically about on his thank you to tieing with Dale Sr. for form of profession wins. He basically desires one greater, he ought to of gained at Texas, Martinsville, and a few different tracks the place he finished 2d.. without Jeff Gordon, Nascar probable does no longer be the place that's in the present day, with each and all the exposure it gets, and each thing. definite, there are different great drivers basically no person like him, and he's a huge driver that each and each single driver respects and each fan ought to appreciate besides.

wow, that was a long question. even though jeff gordon is my favorite driver, dale sr. will always be more popular. gordon even credits a lot of his racing skills to d.e. i don't know why people think there was a big rivalry between the two. they were actually good friends.
