Mythology & Folklore - July 2006

Parts of the bible originate less from divine influence and more from human influence. What parts were obviously inserted to further someones cause?
I think one likely candidate would be the idea that it's necessary for one to accept Jesus as your savior or you go to hell. The is so obviously a control mechanism. It allows for some really evil things to happen in the name of Christ. For instance:

1. It creates a position of percieved superiority, which in itself opens to door to corruption.
2. It creates a weapon of fear to weild against the ignorant and unwitting.
3. It is an edict that requires complete submission or suffer horrors worse than you can imagine.
4. It creates an egotistical side to religion, which greatly increases the likelihood of bloodshed.

"Believe it, or else!!" is essentially what that means.

My God does not need to stoop to petty threats to gain popularity.

This sword may be from India, Indonesia or "there-about".
The wavy blade is 23 inches long. The total length is 27 inches long. It has a wooden scabbard.
I was told that whomever can read the artistic metal work can tell WHERE it was made and WHO made it.
I can take pictures of it to forward.

OMFG. my dog just walked out of the kitchen and the toaster was on and their was a sandwich in it and it wound up screwing up my toaster. It is just me and my dog in the house so could he of tried cooking a grilled cheese sandwich in the toaster or are their ghosts in my house?

i had a dream lastnight i remember some of it......i remember that i was in some room my mom saying dont go there cause of the spirits or ghost something, and im like okay but i was walking and then someone comes and attacks me im trying to get away from them but they have me im saying let go of me and all then i find a broom on the floor and pick it up and im swinging it but it was hard to swing then u would hear a bang kinda and thats where i hit the ghost thing but i was trying to go away then i guess i go to dream about other things cause i dont remember what happened with that certain one.

what does that dream mean? and please no smartass comments.

i heard a rumour that evidence was found of people living in that vicinity around the period of the greek gods that were 9ft tall and wondered if thats true? If you as an average joe saw such a person would you beleive them to be a giant or a god.

I was recently watching a Korean Drama. The young couple wanted to marry but most people were oppposed - particulary the man's grandmother. The woman becomes pregnant. Because of this, some of the family was urging Grandma to approve. She made a comment about a bride's veil and the baby being a boy. (The subtitlers did not translate the whole sentence). The other family said it was a superstition. Does anyone know what the superstition is?
