so today is my birthday. i spent the whole day at work because the other receptionist took off so i couldnt (she put in for leave 2 months ago!) tonight i'm going out to dinner with my mom, her boyfriend, his son and the son's wife (whom i love dearly, the son just got back from 2 tours in afganistan and 2 in iraq, so i've missed them), as well as my boyfriend and his mom. so far i've had to change WHERE we're going to dinner, because no one else wanted to go there, and now WHEN we're going to dinner because my bf's mom is a royal pain and couldnt come when we were going to go, and 2 years ago she did the same thing and b*tched to my bf for MONTHS about it. and to make matters worse, i wanted to go out to dinner alone with my bf tomorrow, but he's working all day. sunday i have to drive to maryland to see my father, and monday, which is supposed to be a holiday, i now have to go to campass because of a meeting that was rescheduled due to the ice storm we had this week!!!

I was wondering becuase that is what it seems like in St. Louis every year and I've heard that Mardi Gras has more traditional feel in New Orleans. But it seems like the true meaning of Mardi Gras is lost, is that true and how authentic is the St. Louis celebration compared to the ones in New Orleans?

I already know it is the year of the Fire Pig and that it starts on February 18th. What I don't know is when does the celebration start: on sunrise or on moonrise....?

And is there some sort of ritual concerning people bathing at the sea on sunrise? I have heard this somewhere.

i went to sfgate.com, and it says the parade isn't until march 3rd. i know this sunday is the chinese lunar new year, and i was hoping and expecting there to be some celebrations this saturday and sunday in chinatown. i was especially looking forward to the parade. does anyone know if there are any events this weekend? or should i just wait til march 3rd (and is that the primary time for new year festivies??)? any details would be greatly appreciated as i was planning on hanging out in chinatown this weekend for the new year. thanks!
