Mardi Gras translates into English as Fat Tuesday. It occurs on the day before Ash Wednesday, when Christians began to abstain from meat during the Lenten season.

Best way to describe it, without trying to go into religion... Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. Fat Tuesday is the last day of the Mardi Gras celebration, it ends Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras is a celebration, like a last "Hoorah", leading up to lent. During lent you fast and dont eat meats on Fridays and give up something you treasure.

I hope that Helps out.
