I'm always interested in learning about other cultures and embracing their holidays. Although, I don't know much about the Chinese New Year. I know that it starts on Sunday, but at what time? Also, I want to celebrate it, so how would I start? Are there any traditions that should be followed prior to Sunday, and what other things should be observed throughout the New Year? What do each of the 15 days of Chinese New Year symbolize, and what is usually done throughout those days? Is there anything that is done in this time to help welcome a healthy, happy, New Year? Are there any supersticions that follow with this holiday? What things should be done and avoided during this time to embrace the traditions that come with this holiday?

(Yes she's Chinese, well I think so) she made us some delicious egg rolls the other day and I'd like to bring her something for New Years, but need to know what is appropriate? A card and some "lucky money" for her young grandson (about 6 or 7 yrs)? also I was going to make some salsa for her, but should I give her some oranges or tangerines (I often see these given) ???????

- and if its okay to do the lucky money, do I use coins or a dollar bill? Do I need more than one envelope???

Should the Auld Lang Sign be sung every single time the second after new year? Is this just an American Tradition or do the Canadians do this as well?

But most importantly. Why do we sing this song on New Years? What is the significance of it?
