I've used a few good ones before. The more ridiculous the story, the better. If you want to just call in an hour or two late, tell them there is a cement truck parked immediately behind your car in the parking lot and you can't get out. I did this and it worked. If you want to be gone the whole day on a Monday, which is risky cause of the 3-day weekend thing, here's a good one. Call and say you aren't exactly sick, but in your current state it is best that you not come to work because you have come down with diarrhea. It's believable and there will be no questions asked.

Tell them you opened your window, to let the fly out. As you lent out, you sneezed, which caused you to fall, breaking both your legs. They're bound to believe you!
