Start with his favorite meal. If you two have children, would the grandparents take them for a weekend? Schedule that ahead of time and surprise him. He'd probably like some private quality time with his wife. I know I would (with MY wife!).

30th Birthday Movie Theme Party Celebrate a 30th birthday with a party planned around a classic movie from 30 years ago. Pick a favorite from the year you were born, and tailor these ideas to fit your theme. Some popular titles that would make memorable party themes include the Rocky series, E.T. and National Lampoons Vacation. 30th Birthday Party Fiesta A fiesta birthday party is a popular theme for any age, but it is well-suited for turning 30 because its a good balance of grown-up fun. Its also one of the easiest parties to plan and initiate. Read about throwing a Mexican fiesta and use these party tips to make it special for 30. •Dress the guest of honor in a poncho and sombrero. •Give a toast or roast to the 30 year old and have everyone shake maracas every time the number 30 is spoken. •Dont forget the piata! Make sure the birthday boy gets first swing. 30th Birthday Party On The Go Forget about elaborate parties for a 30th birthday. Instead, make your 30th birthday an all day " or all night " event with a scavenger-hunt like activity. This may take as much planning as a big bash, but it will a lot more interesting, too. •Think of 30 locations to leave clues. Try to choose places that have meant something to you in the last 30 years such as elementary school or a favorite teenage hangout. •Leave fun facts or old photographs with each clue. •End the tour at your place or a friends house to finish celebrating with an old-fashioned birthday cake.

Surprise party! Tell his buddy's and family, and throw him a surprise party at home. Cake and beer are cheap- bbqing is is cheap. (Guess that depends on where you live, though, because of the time of year). I did that on my guy's 30th birthday and he had no idea. I acted like I forgot all about his birthday, had his best friend take him out for beers while I got everything ready to go. It was a lot of fun and relatively inexpensive.

I threw a surprise party for my Husband's 40th lin December. I didn't have much funds, but I had great friends who were willing to all meet at a local restaurant and cover their own tabs. It turned out great. The only other suggestion I would have is fix his favorite meal and invite several friends over for a dessert party later in the evening. You won't have to feed everyone a meal. Then you could make your own cake.

Try this ...it's really fun
Buy some cheap really nice and colorful balloons !
Cut up small pieces of paper , on each piece write a question , put a piece in each balloon and blow it up !
At the party the person that pops the balloon must stand up and read and answer the question in front of everyone !
It's hilarious ...especially if the questions are funny ....and alcohol is involved !!
Good luck and have a blast !!

Hmm. I wish you could have provided a little more information about him.
It all depends on how many people will be there, what type of person he is, and what types of things he enjoys.
Something memorable would probably be nice.
I always like when people act like they don't know it's your birthday, and then SURPRISE!
Just go about your day like it's a normal day, have people come over, then surprise him. Just like the movies.
Also, a really cool thing is to have old friends come over. He will never see it coming. And if you have one of his old friends over, that he hasn't seen in forever, you won't need to go out and do anything special, because the whole time they will talk and enjoy theirselves talking about old times.
Other suggestions are indoor go-carting. Paintballing.
Bowling, mini-putt putt. A concert.....
Hope this helps a little!
Good luck!

You and him. A wonderful home cooked meal that is his favorite. Some nice gentle music to slow dance too. Then go upstairs perform a raunchy strip tease, and rock his world!
