The celebration of St. Nicholas is separate from the Christmas holidays, and occurs during the 2 weeks prior to December 6th, which is St. Nicholas's day. St Nicholas being the original basis for the character santa claus so why do we give gifts on December 25th and how are the two days related someone please explain why we don't have 2 holidays instead of one.

I've just finished giving a final exam to my class. In a little while I will go to a community Christmas party and my siblings will join me. I'm wearing a long red cotton dress from Holy Clothing (which I bought through Ebay). I have with me the Cincuentanera crown that I wore on Halloween. I'm wearing a bejeweled rose pin that belonged to my mother.

As for a Cincuentanera party, if I have one, I suppose it must wait until January or even February, unless others are planning something I don't know about.

I received chocolates from 3 different friends so far. I appreciate their thoughtfulness BUT they all know I am allergic to chocolate. Hello? I brought them to work and left them on our company kitchen table for everyone to eat. My seond worst gift (so far) is a HUGE basket of lavender lotion from a good friend. This person also knows I have skin allergies and cannot wear anything that contains a fragrance. What are these people thinking? What a waste of money.

I was just wondering...You always hear about the dreaded family christmas or get togethers....My family is REALLY small...so everyone gets along...and we only see each other a couple times a year..so I love going to see them. we have decided to ignore all family things and just do our own thing, to take Laura's words (**** the family, we'll do our own thing) which will mean a nice long walk down the beach or something, just relaxing nad spending our first christmas together....its what we want so we'll just be with eachother for christmas, so who will everyone else be with for christmas this year??
