I received chocolates from 3 different friends so far. I appreciate their thoughtfulness BUT they all know I am allergic to chocolate. Hello? I brought them to work and left them on our company kitchen table for everyone to eat. My seond worst gift (so far) is a HUGE basket of lavender lotion from a good friend. This person also knows I have skin allergies and cannot wear anything that contains a fragrance. What are these people thinking? What a waste of money.

They're not thinking, and that's the problem.

I get a lot of skin products that I am allergic to as well, and I get them from my in-laws who know very well that I am allergic to some of the ingredients. (I think it's just their way of letting me know that they don't care.) I also get a lot of ceramic bowls from people for some reason, even though the givers know that my apartment is full of ceramic pieces that I have made!

One of the more disappointing gifts I got was when I was 12. My parents gave me a pink bike even though they knew I hated the color and I didn't want a bike. My step sister wanted one, and so they gave me the exact same thing instead of bothering to see what I wanted instead. Before I even got to open up the gift, which I had to assemble, I got the annual big lecture about how horrible I had been all year and that I didn't deserve any of the gifts. I was also told (ever year) that it was more effort for my parents to return the gifts that it was for me to open them, and that's the only reason I got anything. (I can't really recall any of the other gifts I have received from my parents because the lecture usually overshadowed anything else that happened that day. I think the only reason I got the bike is because I stopped asking for things by the age of 10 because I knew I didn't deserve to get presents anyway.)

Maybe this is just for fun for you, but you really are blessed to know that people thought of you. Even if you don't like the gifts you recieve, thats not what Christmas is about anyway. I can understand a child feeling that way but you are obviously an adult, as you said you work, so just be thankful. There may be a day when you don't recieve any gifts you never know.
