I want to make an ironic craft out of it. The flag part comes off easily from the stick.

Driving down my street today I saw one house with a flag flying from their porch. The rest didn't care to put one up. You're getting a day off of work and it's too much trouble to show a little patriotism? What keeps you from flying your flag?

My town decided to have the 4th of July fireworks on the 3rd of July, due to the fact that more ppl would be able to attend with the 4th being a holiday...(which is okay if you work at the post office or bank), anyways..apparently the idiot who thought this up...didnt check the weather the week before. the 3rd had a 80% chance of rain!...10mins into the fireworks...it started to rain HARD and the show was cancelled. are they going to have a "repeat" show on the 4th....since the chance of rain is at 10%..NO they arent. as far as im concerned they ruined a LOT of ppls 4th, since lots of ppl travel to be with family. So have you a village idiot story for this 4th of July???

I can't believe we had to work on the Fourth of July. This really stinks!

Oh say can you see.....
Rockets red glare.... bombs bursting in air....

The Fourth of July is celebrated using disturbing icons of war! We sit on bleechers, lawns, whereever and watch the dramatic presentation of "bombs bursting in air" WOW! After all it wasn't literally 'our' land anyway- a lot of Native American people were killed and lost everything.

I am really not as anti America as this I may come across.
It just doesnt seem right to me, it seems hypocritical to celebrate the independance from Great Britain who oppressed the settlers - who oppressed the natives.

What are your opinions?

If you are venturing to a neighborhood party or the family barbicue and fireworks, have fun and be safe!

'Hardball with Chris Matthews' for Oct. 18
Read the transcript to the 7 p.m. ET show
Guest: Jimmy Carter

CARTER: "Well, one parallel is that the Revolutionary War, more than any other war up until recently, has been the most bloody war we‘ve fought. I think another parallel is that in some ways the Revolutionary War could have been avoided. It was an unnecessary war.

Had the British Parliament been a little more sensitive to the colonial‘s really legitimate complaints and requests the war could have been avoided completely, and of course now we would have been a free country now as is Canada and India and Australia, having gotten our independence in a nonviolent way.

I think in many ways the British were very misled in going to war against America and in trying to enforce their will on people who were quite different from them at the time."

When would we have been free?

Well into the 20th century like Canada, Australia, Africa and India?
