Definitely charcoal. The flavor is worth the prep time.

Charcoal will make for a better taste though the gas will go quite a bit quicker. Matter of preference for taste vs time.

Charcoal is by far the best tasting, but, my husband and I both work long hours, so, I admit that we use gas. Charcoal does taste better.

I'm going charcoal. It takes a little more work, but nothing beats the taste. Just depends on how ambitious you are.

Personally, I like charcoal.
I found this info at About.com. I was wondering the same question you are and decided on charcoal....
"What kind of grill is best for you?....":

"What kind of Grate to get":

Never use that lighter fluid. It's unhealthy, unsafe, and imparts a nasty taste to the food. Use a "chimney" to start the charcoal briquets...it works very well.
