Are you even Native American? Or are you white and walk with shame for what white people did a long, long time ago. Hmmmm, you know. I can't actually remember being around at that time. In fact I can't think of anybody alive who was around at that time. Not to say it didn't happen but you have to understand ...none of us had anything to do with that.
And not to pass the buck or anything, it was the Spanish who first landed on these shores massacring and enslaving Native Americans. Be it in Mexico up to California etc to Florida. Other whites did do it later on with different tribes and that was wrong and we have learned that. The idea is to progress and make things right. Not be punished for what people did over 100 years ago.
Also many Indian tribes fought and massacred each other. That doesn't count? It should to some tribes. The Huron were driven out of their homes west by the Iroquois. Commance tribes fought and pushed out the Lipan Apache tribe from their lands. Apaches pushed Caddoan and Algonkian tribes eastward. There were massacres, kidnapping and enslavement. Isn't this where they lost their Independence, I believe so.
Lighten up dude. Why should it have been ok for tribes to do it against each other?
Youre English. Where do you think the Americans who did these things came from. Just so you know... all over the world. Especially England. Hey, maybe thats why your upset. Happy Independence Day.

Well, since the so called "Real Natives" are just Asians who got here a few thousand years before the "White Man" they are not really native after all. Recent discovery shows that Caucasian remains have been found in California that predate the migration of Asians across the Bearing Straight. Then there are the Vikings who were also here before the American Indians. The simple fact is that there are NO NATIVE AMERICANS. Might makes right. We conquered them, they should be grateful we gave them reservations to keep their cultural traditions instead of assimilating them. We give them HUGE discounts on going to college and allow them to be exempt from many laws like Gambling and we even gave them "Fire Water" for the lazy ones!!

No--they're covered by the exact same Bill of Rights as the rest of us--and enjoy some of the exact same freedoms--the right to vote--hold elected office--education--public services etc etc etc--after all it's been a couple hundred years now and there aren't many of the people still alive that had all that done to them (the rape of the American Indian) OH ---and very few of the people that actually did all those things are still around either so this laying the blame thing can kinda be softened somewhat I should think-----------------I am 15 % Cherokee myself and I'm having a great 4 th !!!!!!!! Feel pretty damned free too !!!!!!!!!

Native American culture are based on community or they were. To be set
apart for the tribe or family was a punishment. To serve in the military is a
great honor, because you serve your country, your family and your community.
Belonging is what that culture was all about and the 4 of July is for all of us.
The Native American Religions were the only faith the was band in this country of freedom. Read more about real native culture and grow wiser.

Footjob,
Click on the link below for Native American celebrations.
I'm an African-American and don't care to celebrate the holiday because slavery was still in effect. When the so-called "founding father's" penned the Constitution, they had an opportunity then and there to outlaw slavery, however, they refused to do so and had won. Therefore slavery lasted another 100 plus years. The last slaves were freed under federal law in Texas in 1864. Texas politicos refused to followed the law of Emancipation Proclamation. For me, the 4th of July is a hypocritical celebration and one which I choose not to participate.

In the US you all whine on about "no taxation without representation" like the UK did to you. Do you not know that the USA now runs exactly like that! my family lived in NY for 2 years after moving from england. we were taxed like any other American yet not allowed to vote. It was disgusting after the fuss you all make on the 4th of July for this VERY reason!!!! we moved home after 2 years, there's only so much of America you can take!! Wake up Americans-you are all hypocrites celebrating independance day.

Some may, others celebrate the Independence they are working towards regaining. At least there are days such as Aboriginal Day to remind us of the unique make up of society. Not that it removes any of the harm done in the past.

Good question, they probably do look at it as a sad time when, they lost so much, and nature begin it's downward slow destruction. The American government in teaching history all too often fails to teach as well the things they did to others that were not good or unkind.

The declaration of independence was declared on July 4 but there was no mention of the Indians.
