We all appreciate having the day off work & having a summer day to relax, with fireworks, picnics, swimming, barbeques or whatever. I for one plan to be doing the same thing with my family today - woo hoo!! I just wondered how many Americans have even thought, even if it was only a passing thought, that the 4th of July is the day we celebrate the day of our nation's independence from England. All the freedoms we have today are a direct result of the foundations that our forefathers put in place when they declared independence & wrote the Constitution. I was at the grocery store yesterday & they were playing a song on the loud speaker. It was the Marine Corps song (forgot the name). As my father & nephew were Marines, I commented to a man nearby that I liked that song. He said "I just see tomorrow as a day off work". It made me wonder how many of us even think about why we celebrate the 4th. For me, it's a quick thought, but it would be truly sad if we never thought about it all.
