Do you think that fashion sources influence our perception of beauty? I often hear it on TV/magazines people blame eating disorders on fashion industry- that it puts up unattainable standards. Do you think these ppl just want to blame fashion industry because they do not want to recognize their own responsibilities? Or does fashion industry/TV/magazines influence both mans and womens perception of what beauty is and should look like and as a result we suffer in attempt to achieve an unattainable beauty standard?

I was wondering if you think I should get my friend a b-day present. She was my college teacher but we aren't close close friends. I have been to her house and baby shower and given gifts for her newborn and I work with her hubby. She writes me ad sends me pictures of her family and baby alot too. We only really talk through email.. but her b-day is coming up and I didnt know if I should get her something or not. I was thinking something simple like a restaurant gift card for $20 or something like that for her and hubby to get out w/out the baby for a night. The only other thing is I dont want her to feel like she has to get me something for my b-day.. and shes never done anything for me either, so i dont know... what do you think? If i have gotten her 3 gifts for her baby and i get her a b-day present, I dont want to make it seem like i "like" her by giving gifts alot... if you know what I mean kinda, although we are friends. Thanks!

There are a few factors as to why I wrote this question, one of them is the fact that my jaw is currently aching due to one of my wisdom teeth coming through, the other is that it looks like we have some knowledgeable and intelligent individuals on right now and I want to take advantange of that. :)

So, in your own words, what do you think the purpose of wisdom is? Although it is only a concept for certain types of thinking, cultural terms wisdom is considered to be achieved at later points in life, a perception of the world garnered through experience of many things or personal philosphies.
It could be considered a learning tool, to educate the young.
Perhaps you think of it as a mark of character.
Heck, it could even be something that younger people describe the older folks as, so as to make them seem more important and valued.
How do YOU see it?

The company I work in has a somewhat fair level of turnaround when it comes to employees, and only a few moment's ago, a new starter in the workplace just got up and left. Saying her farewells to those she got to know in the brief amount of time she was here, she said this job wasn't for her. This was something she felt she couldn't do, or rather wasn't mean't to.

So my question is this, are you still in a job that you feel you only do to get by, and do you feel there's the perfect job out there for you?
I gather most of you will say 'yes', but do you know what that dream job is, and do you know how to go about aquiring it?

Recently I was asked what made me stand out from everyone else in the room. At the time I couldn’t think of anything. Thinking back I’m still not sure if there is anything that makes me better than anyone else in the room or anywhere else. Every one likes to think that they are special. But what is it that makes a person special? Why do we have a need to be different? I have never met a single person that says that they don’t want to be different Nobody says that they aspire to be average. Every one wants to leave their mark on the world. But how can every one be different from the billions of people alive and the billions of people that have lived.?

sorry, when reading literature on other peoples research on a particular topic...they measure it through whatever type of methodology they use.

Some say this is the operationalization of the topic= meaning how they measure that variable to find the answer to answer the subject of their research question.

For example if I wanted to find out the operationalisation of social capital using the variable …lets use for example – the impact of abusive parent on children’s social capital- as the variable

Some say using abusive parent (the variable) to MEASURE social capital is DIFFERENT the operationalization of social capital.

Methodology to use is impact of abusive parent on the childs social capital VS the operationalization of social capital- IS THERE any difference?......I’ve always thought the operationlisation and the methodology used to measure social capital are the same.

How is this so?...and sorry if this is confusing.

A news report today says that one in twelve people living in Phoenix, Arizona is an illegal alien. Utterly amazing. Although I have nothing against our major immigrant population, one is compelled to wonder at the social ramifications of such a large group of people from this background. What have its effects on the economy been? On other aspects of life? What are you thinking?

I personally think people who don't stand still in a moment of silence for 2 minutes to honor soldiers who had sacrificed their lives to save us is just pathetic.
Those kind of people are not acceptable.
The only way they'll ever be acceptable is if they changed their negative ways.
