Figuratively, I assume...

My computer.

My computer blew up a month ago and I had to get a new one. I spent 3 weeks without a computer, and I never realized how much I use it!

Show times, news, weather, information, music, fun, communication. It’s so integrated into my life. I have speakers in a couple different rooms and tons of mp3’s on my PC that play music all over the house. The house was silent those 3 weeks. I don’t get a newspaper, and I never really realized how much online news I read, until I had no idea what was going on, and people were talking about things and I was clueless. If I wanted to go to a movie, I’d find myself heading toward my PC – only to find that it wasn’t there. I didn’t know when the movie was going to start! What should I wear? Let’s check the weather. Whoops! Can’t.

I had tons of emails when I got my new computer up and running. People started calling me, worried because I hadn’t responded to their email in a few days.

The computer, for better or worse, has become a staple in my life. Living without it was very different, and very hard.

My eyeglasses!
My eyes were destroyed by the German Measles when I was a kid and I have worn glasses since I was 8 or 10 years old.

Without them, everything looks like a French Impressionistic painting (you know, the ones with the fuzzy, indistinct outlines).

This realization has led me to wonder if some of those painters had a severe astigmatism back before glasses came into common use, and they actually SAW everything that way!
