I was wondering if you think I should get my friend a b-day present. She was my college teacher but we aren't close close friends. I have been to her house and baby shower and given gifts for her newborn and I work with her hubby. She writes me ad sends me pictures of her family and baby alot too. We only really talk through email.. but her b-day is coming up and I didnt know if I should get her something or not. I was thinking something simple like a restaurant gift card for $20 or something like that for her and hubby to get out w/out the baby for a night. The only other thing is I dont want her to feel like she has to get me something for my b-day.. and shes never done anything for me either, so i dont know... what do you think? If i have gotten her 3 gifts for her baby and i get her a b-day present, I dont want to make it seem like i "like" her by giving gifts alot... if you know what I mean kinda, although we are friends. Thanks!

No you don't HAVE to give her a gift, but its nice if you do. If you don't want to spend money on a gift instead make a gift certificate good for one night of baby sitting so her and her husband can go out and have some parent time.
The best kind of gifts are given without any expectation of getting one back.

Ultimately the choice is yours. Do you want to buy her a gift? If so then do so... A gift is not expected but appreciated or at least this is the way it should be. A gift card would be a very nice gesture... And she would probably really enjoy the fact that you thought so much about her, probably will really bring a smile to her face and brighten her day... The true gift is in the giving not the receiving... God bless****

I think you should just send a cute card then. No gift certificate. Its the acknowledgement & the gesture that matters

I think a card and a $20.00 gift certificate is fine.

I agree with the others. If you don't give a gift you won't set the precedent.
