I had an interesting conversation with an Indian friend of mine. He said that their culture teaches them to not be confident, to show deference and avoid speaking out for oneself. They also restrict contact between opposite sexes during the formative teenage years and most school evaluation is through exams and assignments, rather than presentations and verbal means.

All this puts them at a social snd therefore academic disadvantage in university and professional life here that can never be reversed.

What do you think and is there a cure?

I'm trying to find out how much people receive as unemployment benefit in different countries. So, if you don't mind posting your country and amount, that would be great.

My grief counselor says she talks to "older women" that say when they lost their newborns the babies were rushed out of there and now,so many years later they still mourn the deaths but never had support. It was always "get over it". Having lost an infant myself I would love to go and talk to some other women who couldnt create the memories I have. Who didnt have the same services available. Id love to help create memorieds now. I wonder, are "outsiders" welcome in nursing homes? I felt wierd calling myself in case it seems to crazy but I just want to give them some support and allow them to finally share their baby's lives.

Hi I'm thinking about how weapons (mainly guns but also swords) are an extension of man and looking at McLuhan's laws I've kinda figured the first two (what is extended? what is made obsolete?) Does anyone have any idea about how using a gun invokes a a return to older ‘structures…environments…forms of action, human organization, and thought’ ? (that's the law of Retrieval) and how its' characteristics are reversed when it is pushed to the limits of its potential (that's the law of Reversal)? please help I'm hungry and tired and I have to have this assignment in later today... :-)

Suicide is a terrible thing. I really feel for these people and their families. I just saw on World News, that many people are suing Paxil because it causes suicidal thoughts and actions. Have you ever considered suicide? What stopped you?

My belief is not. Both my Grandmother and Mother were Army Officers (GB, WRAC), and whilst they both proved (my Grandmother was based at Bletchley Park) to be insightful, brave and analytical women, I do not (nor do they) believe they could be any use in front line battle.

Firstly, a good man is seriously affected by a woman in distress. As my father, a Para and later Secondered SAS would argue - a man in battle does not have time for emotion. Of course men look after their friends. But they also trust them to be as strong as themselves. A man could falter momentarily for a woman - and lose his life.

Also, women have certain sanitary problems. Alright, changing a tampax mid-fight may not seem that problematic, but when your fighting in a jungle and even brushing your teeth is not allowed due to the carrying scent....

I believe women can be incredibaly strong, brave, incisive and dynamic. However, men ARE stronger and I think fighting should be left to men.

In other shows men can sleep around and not be considered a dirty manwhore, but in SATC women sleep around and they are considered to be sluts? That doesn't make sense.

Men brand women who practise the same lifestyle as them (having one night stands, hooking up) "sluts" only because they want to control women and ensure that gender inequalities will ALWAYS exist!

If Samantha is a sIut, then so are many men. I say Samantha is the unusual role model for women - she is assertive, confident and comfortable with her sexuality! I am not telling women to behave like Samantha but you have to look at her as the bold example of what women can achieve if patriarchy do not exist in our society.

Plus she has the hottest boyfriend in the show!

SATC is all about empowerment of women. In shows women are treated as objects, SATC only even things out by having the women talk about men and their penises.

That's why many women love SATC and Samantha is such a cool character.

While searching for a greeting I found one for those born on Sept 11th. As my birthday also falls on a tragic day that will live in infamy, I was curious how a 9-11 birthday greeting would be composed, especially since Yahoo singled out that date, indicating something would be different about it than other greetings. I was appalled. The greeting should be deleted. How to tell the honchos?

Often hear stories of people who have, under stressful conditions or a crisis, been equipped with unprecedented physical strength.

I understand that this is caused by adrenalin? Is there some sort of formula to determine how much extra strength adrenalin can produce, or would that be relative to the stress the person was under at the time, and their mental state?

Hope I articualted this properly....thanks

I think the Canadians still has that sort of feelings since Canada were the last former British Empire in North America. This is also why they were accepted as part of the British Commonwealth nations just like India,Pakistan,Singapore,Malay... and Australia. How about the people in the United States?I still believe they have many blood relatives in the UK or in the other regions of the European blocks that they haven't seen or met since half a century ago.Why the United States Of America were not listed as part of the Commonwealth nations?I'm very sorry to ask these questions since i don't know much about the history of North America.Hope you guys would mind to give some infos about these. For those who replied, thanks a lot:-))
