Let's see.
You want to be a nurse. You will be in a career which is, traditionally, dominated by women. You will be surrounded by women for most of your life, and, if you're good at your job, you will end up as section head, manager, etc. Again surrounded by women.

And this presents a problem for you?
Are you sure you're not gay already?

Seriously, I work in a hospital - the male nurses are as straight as in any other profession. Most of them have married other (female) nurses. A few of the female nurses are lesbians, not that it makes them better or worse as nurses.

No, Male nurses make far more money than female nurses most of the time. Hosptitals need men as nurses becuse they can usually lift more. So there is nothing wrong with male nurses. I know a few and they made the choice to become a nurse for the same basic reson you stated. Many hopitals enjoy having male nurses.

Dude, Who cares??? If you can do a good job and have a passion for nursing than by all means have at 'er. I was in the hospitality business for a long time and people thought I was gay. I'm 6'2" 200 LBS and don't in the slightest way come off as gay. I used to have a ball (no pun intended) messing with the idiots who thought I was gay.

If the idea of being a nurse appeals to you, then enroll in that major and see how it goes and how you feel in that environment. Once you meet your classmates (future colleagues) of both sexes, you will be more able to tell whether or not it is a gay environment and whether or not you enjoy being there.

Just give it a try and if you don't like it, change majors. But don't let what other people say stop you. Be the best you can be.

Oh, and remember that most people change majors at some point!

Oh No!! nothing at all wrong with a male nurse
gives us females something to enjoy while in the hospital..... : )

I had a male nurse when I had surgery he was a very good nurse. I don't think gender makes a difference it's your "bed side manner" that makes a good nurse I have had some horrid female nurses.

Yes I'd date a male nurse

And for the ones who say it's gay that's called homophobic

No! Being a nurse is not a "gay" job. It requires a lot of intelligence, something that the people you are talking to seem to be lacking. I agree with jasminetablin on this. Being a nurse is an extremely admirable job for any man or woman. Go for it and don't worry about what anybody else says or thinks!

My mother recently had a stroke, and I have to say the majority of nurses in the hospital where she was were male. I don't think they are gay at all (no more or less than the rest of the work force), they are just helping people with less education than a M.D. In a lot of ways, they are more hands on and able to help than a doctor who only sees the patient for about 10 minutes. I say go for it, it's an admirable job for a man.

As long as you are doing your job, I'm fine with it. But if it comes to having to examine certain areas, like any other chic I prefer a female. Other than that, a male nurse is fine. I don't get what the big deal would be

The guys you hang out with are so imature. Everywhere people go there's someone saying gay this gay that. I'm not gay, but look. You're persuing a dream here and your own friends are jealous because you can make more money in this job than they can in fast food. Did you know that male nurses make more money than female nurses? Its true. Your friends are fantasizing about female nurses stripping butt naked in the stashed porn videos. They can't imagine a male like yourself swooping in and getting the girls for yourself. At least that's what I'd tell them.
