Is it normal for cousins to treat you like this?
Is my sec. cousin doing it out of love or just cheering me up or plain creepy?

A while ago I read Eric Berne's 'Games People Play' and found it quite a useful tool for comprehending people's behaviour patterns.

There are, however, a few problems I have with it. His analysis really had to 'get inside' his subjects and cultural beings and he quite rightly dispensed with the objectivite language of clinical psychology.

The idiomatic language he used was rather alien to me not just in purely linguistic terms but also in the terms of the culture it drew from. I had on top of that the time gap as his book was first published in 1964.

So can anyone recommend to me a modern British 'Games People Play'.

TY

I had to break it off with one of my ex-girlfriends once because she had no peace in her life and had to be in control of everything. She was a lovely person, but nothing in the world would make her happy. She was constantly stressed. Given that the financial side of things wasn't a problem, I suggested that she become a housewife at which point she responded:
WHAT AM I, YOUR SLAVE?
I promptly suggested that I become her house husband, to which she responded:
WHAT ARE YOU A BUM?

I am a third year psychology major. If I recieve my MSW (master of social work) or a master's in psychology I can become a liscensed therapist. If I recieve my Ph.D in psychology I can become a counseling psychologist. What is the difference in the two besides the amount of education? Specifically what is a psychologist able to do that a therapist cannot?

The love of my life broke up with me in 1962, and for over two decades, the memories of my love for her, and my loss of her, haunted me intensely! Then one day, as I was writing a novel in 1983, I had one of the characters in it describe his feelings in a similar situation, based entirely on my OWN feelings and memories. Almost immediately after I did that, my former love seemed like nothing more than merely another girl in my past, and those intense feelings of loss have NEVER returned, even though it was 24 years ago that I wrote those paragraphs. Can anyone explain how such a dramatic and permanent turn-around could happen? And would it be likely to work the same way for other people?

Please answer that either here, or as a response to my other question... which provides some more details. I am REALLY very curious about this. Thanks!!

I wrote this answer to someone, based on my OWN experience. She wanted to ease her pain over a major breakup:

Sit down and write out, in great detail, your EXACT feelings for him. Make it as detailed as you possibly can, with details covering your physical, emotional, and all other reactions you've ever felt for him. Make it several pages long, and pour your whole heart and soul into it.

You need not show it to anyone. But within two or three days after you do that, there is a very HIGH probability that those feelings you now have for him will almost entirely have disappeared, and he'll be little more than just another person to you. If so, this is a permanent fix! Those intense feelings you had will very likely NEVER return, ever. And almost immediately, you can get on with your life.

I don't know what makes that happen, but maybe a professional could explain it. It is the equivalent of taking the OPPOSITE of a love potion. Quite amazing!

The12 Helpful Suggestions for Men Regarding Conduct in Feminist Spaces (though it could be helpful to some women, too):
1. Realize it's not all about you. No, really! Shocked? This is because:

Corollary to Rule 1: Feminism is about women. Girls, ladies, females, grrrrlz, womyn, wimmin, whatever you call them, it's about us. It's for us, by us. Not how you feel harmed or threatened by feminism or women, or about how you are oppressed as a man. We know that patriarchy affects all people negatively - but this isn't the space to draw attention to how men suffer. I strongly encourage you to form your own men's group to discuss those issues.

2. Check your privilege. Yes, you have it. We all have different kinds of privilege, but you, as a man, have male privilege. Just because you don't feel privileged doesn't mean you don't have it. Recognizing that you have privilege does not mean that you have never suffered.

I am just curious: Are different races assumed to have been present in our evolutionary ancestors, such as in the neanderthals and more distant ancestors?

I've noticed that racial differences seem to be ignored in evolutionary discussions, and so I am left wondering where to look for information about how different races in our species, as well as in those of our ancestors, came to be?

I notice that neanderthals are widely portrayed as being white, while the homo erectus species is usually displayed having a very dark skin color. Were there black neanderthals and white homo erectuses?

I mean, seriously... There's all this info on our ancestors, yet if an alien was to take a peek at everything, it would probably think that the modern white man has more in common, visually, with a neanderthal than with a homo sapien East Asian or African...

I realize my question turned into a blizzard of thoughts, but just give me some input on anything that you can that relates. Thanks!
