If an electric generator with 220v single phase output is connected to a home electrical system through a 220v outlet and the main breaker in the breaker box is turned off to disconnect the house from the city power, will the generator then power the house without feeding power back to the city power grid?

Could an existing outlet be used, such as an electric dryer outlet, if the load from the house was first adjusted to ensure that it was less than the breaker capacity on the dryer outlet?

What are the dangers to doing this (aside from those related directly to generating your own power)?

What is the correct way to do this without spending a thousand or more dollars on automatic transfer switches and such?

That would be pretty cool. If not, I'm looking forward to life-like video games in the near future.

This is for a take-home final for physical science... so far my answer is as follows:
When the gas of vapor of a substance is heated, the atoms in that substance absorb energy. The electrons will then jump from their normal ground state positions to the outer levels, which are a higher lever of energy, and this is called an “excited state.” Then, when the electrons fall back into the lower level, it emits a certain amount of energy, which is released as a quantum of light. When the light emitted from an element passes through a prism, it gives the atomic emission spectrum of the element. Each element emits a unique spectrum, which makes it easy for identification.

Am I missing anything, or is this pretty good?

basement makes the upstairs cold; close that door,!" she would rant. "It won't do any such thing," he would reply and go on his way. He was right, but why?

The "psychic" flew in from who knows where, called up my friend on stage and told him to think of three initials of someone significant in his life. Then the "psychic" guessed the initials.

Possibilities of my friend being a plant are zero. Possibility that the psychic flew in a team to research his personal information before the show? Probably zero also.

Any ideas or links to how he did it?

I watched this on an episode of Jericho a couple of weeks back and I have googled it also, but can not find out how to do this. We thought this would be a really good original kind of project (tired of volcanoes).

We flew to HI this year and saw huge "crop circles" in Oregon. They looked like perfect circles inside perfect squares. Why do they plant this way and what is it that they plant?

Isn`t there a way to (RALLY) the country together to fight the gas prices? They go up on weekends and holidays., also makes no sense that every station or conv. store you pass has diff. price.
Same thing holds true for power companies, up in summer time., Tired of getting the shaft and finding it very hard to make ends meet., Prices go up (* pay dosn`t*).

here you go:

You have 12 coins. One of these coins is a fake. It differs from the rest only by it's weight. You don't know whether it is lighter or heavier the the rest of the coins.
You also have a scale, but not the electronic one, the two-cups one, with which you can only tell which cup has more or less weight.
And you only have 3 times to weight the coins to find out which one is a fake.
Remember once again : YOU DON'T KNOW IF THE FAKE COIN IS LIGHTER OR HEAVIER THE THE REST. ONLY 3 WEIGHS.
Solve that! :))))

P.S. Took me 2 weeks to solve. I thought about every day for a couple of hours per day.
