Analysis of sound waves using an oscilloscope or Sound recording software. Examine the sound made by a type of instrument and compare its waveform to other types of instruments. Compare an electronic synthesizer reproduction of an instruments sound to the real thing. Have people try to distinguish the real from the fake. Add distortion to the sound and see how much distortion can be added before people can hear a difference.

Music=sound=vibration

You could do a science fair project on how different materials resonate when they are vibrated by the sound of a particular instrument (the violin for example)
You could make a bar graph (or some kind of chart) measuring the vibration of each, to determine which is the most and which is the least resonant.
Maybe you'll discover that plastic makes a better violin!
Just an idea!

You can make your own "magnetic media" (for those who remember tape recorders).

Rub rust on the stick side of cellophane tape, and then cut the tape to a width that is the same as a cassette tape. If you can rig getting this stuff in the capstan and across the head of the recorder, it WILL record music and play it back.

Cassette tape is made by adhering metal oxides (which are magnetizable) to flexible tape. Floppy disks (anybody remember those?) work the same way.

How about a project on how people memorize things easier when its to music. For example, ask a person to recite a poem from memory then ask them the lyrics to their favorite song. Most likey theyll know the song and not the poem, why?
