Train your participants to take their own pulse rate, using a clock. They should do one wrist while you simultaneously check other wrist. Establish parameters for accuracy (within 4 bpm). Announce start and stop of pulse rate check outloud while you are doing this. This way you prove they can take an accurate pulse rate.
Then have ONE clock visible during the exercise. Announce start and stop of pulserate checks outloud after everyone is ready to take pulse. Have them self-record their pulses on a sheet. Use 15 second intervals multiplied by 4 (15 beats in 15 seconds equals 60 bpm). Don't have them do the math - have them just record how many beats they counted in the 15 seconds. If you interrupt the activity by a whole minute to count pulse, it will have decreased too much by the end of the minute. Good luck!

I only see two solutions to your heart rate problem. Either do the tests separately or only measure the heart rate before and after with the blood pressure test.

How are you planning to take blood pressure from 20 people at the same time? For the best accuracy, it should be taken as soon as possible.

Also, I would recomend having some sort of reward for a good score or maybe the threat of some sort of punishment for a bad score. Without some sort of pressure on the kids to do well, I doubt it would change their bp or their heartrate much.

Sounds like a great experiment, I hope you can get the logistics worked out.

If you need to test them all at the same time get 10 friends to help and train them then have each test a pair. If you can do it in smaller batches get less friends to help. Using the buddy system to work your tests is the simplest way to get standardized results providing they follow your instructions exactly. Good Luck!

Actually it's good that you only have one watch. If you were to have different watches, it could affect your results.
