Guns are awesome, but, it would be even more awesome if you could effortlessly slice through solids with a powerful beam of light packed into a saber.

It's not the slicing through humans capability of the lightsaber that intrigues me, rather its ability to slice through solids so efficiently!

Does it have to be a real one? My kids were using them in the toy aisle just the other day. :)

Not in this lifetime. For the power of a light sabre, it would have to be very big, heavier than you can carry, also, limiting the beam to only 3 feet in length would be a difficult or nearly impossible task.

That depends on how fast human technology advances.And i don't think slicing through people in just a swing is cool though.

I know of one university working on it. Probably in about 20 years to make it perfect.
