can these limits be determined without usint L'Hopital's rule? Is there a way to compute them algebraically?

lim as x goes to 1 of (x-1)/(x-x^1/4)

lim as x goes to pi/2 of (5cosx)/(4x-2pi)

lim as x goes to 0 of (1+abs(x))^(1/x)

lim as x goes to 0 of x/(1-2^abs(x))

It's a really easy problem; I just don't know how to do it:

The cost to a furniture manufacturer for making a sofa is $320. The manufacturer then sells the sofa for $496. What is the markup rate?

Please tell me how to solve the problem. (I have a ton of other ones just like it)

Is it possible to deduce the type of change - linear or otherwise - undergone by the radius describing a spiral..and what is it that is forcing the tip of 'r' to describe a 'circular..?(it's not coming back on itself,so is it circular at all..?) path - in other words, I suppose, what is the formula for that motion?

but I still don't get some problems, can you PLEASE help me and explain to me how you got that answer?

1.) 48 - 4m ; would that equal -12m?
2.) 1/3m - 2/3n - 5/3 ; those / signs mean over (like a fraction) I don't understand that, can someone give me the answer and explain?

A Young math teacher needed to make a little exrta money to support his family. To do this, he sold items during seasonla months. He buys a lot and starts the business with an ample amount of money in his pocket.

In Oct, the math teacher doubled hs money selling pumpkins. But, he had to spend $3000 setting up his stand and paying taxes

In Nov, he tripled his money selling turkeys. But, he had to spend 5400 on taxes.

In Dec, he quadrupeled his money by selling trees. But, he had to spend 7200 on taxes.

When the teacher came home he had $4800 in his pocket from the 3 months business. Was his wife happy or sad depending upon weather or not he made a profit?

1) How much money did he start out with?
2) How much did he gain or lose during the three holiday season?
3) Was his lovely wife happy or sad when he returned home with $4800 in his pocket at the end of Dec?
