Hi, i was wondering if any of you math-tastic people out there could help me figure out these math problems.

they are part of the chapter called "trig substitution"

1) integral of (dx/[(25-x^2)^(3/2)])
where x=5 sin (thetha)

2) integral of ((25-x^2)^(1/2))/x dx
where x= 5 sin (thetha)

thank you!!

I just started a proofs course in college and have been doing great so far with direct proofs (if x and y are both even, then x + y is even - simple stuff like that) ...until this last section hit us...I can't seem to do any of the proofs. We just learned what proof by contrapositive was. Here is one I have no idea about...

If ab > 0 and bc < 0, then ax^2 + bx + c =0 has two distinct real roots.

A couple issues arise...first, what is a distinct real root? She never mentioned it. I know real roots, but distinct...does that mean unique? or what?

Next, I cannot say whether or not a,b, or c is negative. All I know is one or more will have to be to fit both hypothesis.

If I should use proof by contrapositive, well..it simply leaves me stuck at the hypothesis ax^2 + bx + c = 0 does not have two distinct real roots. I still have no idea what to do with that knowledge or how to write it out to even get started with something...

I just switched majors from undeclared to Math around a semester ago, so I'm still in Trigonometry, preparing to take Calculus. So far, I am loving all of the concepts and things I get to do. I took a College Algebra class and fell in love so much that I became a tutor WHILE taking the class.

I have an education class with someone in Calculus and they are too a math major, and she seems to "show off". In my mind she's an idiot because of her extracurricular philosophies.

While I was doing homework earlier after I got off at work (still at work) a girl came up to me and started to lecture me how what I was doing was wrong (I was solving right triangles using the trig) and once I was finished I checked my answer in the BOB and it cleared.

Does anyone else have this kind of problem with math? Or should I tell these people to shove it and let me enjoy math?

I have looked in two math help books and I still can't figure out this equation!

Terry has 3 more quarters than dimes for a total of $3.55. How many quarters does he have?

I know that the answer is 11 quarters (thanks to the back of the book) but try as I might, I can't figure out how to setup the problem. Could someone please help? And if you don't mind, please explain how you decided to set it up so I can learn from it. (Example- "I put 25-x because....and I set it equal to " " for this reason...and so on.) Thank you so much to whomever helps me, because it will cease my increasing frustration.

I see people put this in their math equations here all the time yet I still can't figure out what that's supposed to stand for...

My guess maybe its 3 to the 3rd power so instead you would write here: 3^3

Just a guess...

Okay, in a computer class we are learning bianary, and how to convert it and stuff.

The teacher says he wants to see some work but that you can use a calculator.

The problem for those of you who do not know is the whole point of the thing is to get the remainders in division.

So is there anyway to get a remainder using a calculator or to calculate it using the decimals?

I have a TI-83 Plus.

Or do I just have to divide it all by hand?
