I just switched majors from undeclared to Math around a semester ago, so I'm still in Trigonometry, preparing to take Calculus. So far, I am loving all of the concepts and things I get to do. I took a College Algebra class and fell in love so much that I became a tutor WHILE taking the class.

I have an education class with someone in Calculus and they are too a math major, and she seems to "show off". In my mind she's an idiot because of her extracurricular philosophies.

While I was doing homework earlier after I got off at work (still at work) a girl came up to me and started to lecture me how what I was doing was wrong (I was solving right triangles using the trig) and once I was finished I checked my answer in the BOB and it cleared.

Does anyone else have this kind of problem with math? Or should I tell these people to shove it and let me enjoy math?

Math people are generally anal. Unfortunately, that is the nature of the beast. If you are going to stay in the field, you just need to let it go, but remember, these guys are your colleagues, so just play nice. Be the good guy who can make a difference in this scary math world.

I once had a girlfriend who pronounced the word "math" as if it had a nasty taste. Enjoy the math and don't worry about what people think. I mean, those are people who care about football, and Britney, and countless other irrelevancies. You might even read Richard Feynman's book "What Do You Care What People Think."

I learned to have confidence in your answer, but try to understand why they disagree with your answer. Then if you still disagree, ask the teacher in front of them. I they were being cocky and ended up wrong, it will make them feel embarrassed. If you were not cocky you will look inquisitive and humble, no matter if you were right or not.

I don't generally have folks tell me that I'm doing math wrong, unless I actually make a mistake. I don't know why she thought it was any of her business. Tell those folks to factor themselves out of your equation.

Okay, that joke sucked. Sorry.
