I see people put this in their math equations here all the time yet I still can't figure out what that's supposed to stand for...

My guess maybe its 3 to the 3rd power so instead you would write here: 3^3

Just a guess...

it raises the number/expression/function to a certain power....
x^2 = x * x
x^3= x times x times x....etc.

Hey there!

"^" indicates that there is a number being raised to a certain power.

For example 3^3, is the same as 3*3*3 or 27.

2^7 is the same as 2*2*2*2*2*2*2 or 128.

So "^" means exponents.

You are correct. Before computers and calculators, writing by hand was the only way to do math. You could write x², but computers used text format which did not allow for exponents or roots, so the ^ symbol, or carat, was used to denote "to the power of".

It's called a carrot symbol and you are correct. Like 10^6 would be ten to the sixth power.

yea thats it, cause a computer cant make it go up like an exponent would be so thats wat they do
