If a can begins empty, sitting at rest in a sea of pressurized air and the valve is opened, then what would happen to the can?
Wil the can move to the left, right, or not move once the valve is opened and air is let inside

Make the following assumptions: Pressure outside can = P ; mass of can = m; Area of can ends(each) = A; area of valve hole = s.

Newton's second law :

m*a = P*s*e^(-bt) - C*v(t)

a = d^2x / dt

v = dx / dt

m*d^2x / dt = P*s*e^(-bt) - C*dx / dt

m*d^2x / dt + C*dx / dt = P*s*e^(-bt) >>> Differential equation

the solution for this differential eq is:
y’ = Ps/(mb-c) { e^ (- c/m * t) - e^ (- bt)}

How can i show that (mb-c) and { e^ (- c/m * t) - e^ (- bt)} are both positive?
granted, that we say positive=the right direction

Hello, wondering if these are correct:

1. log(sub)2 (x+1) - log(sub)2 x = 3
2^log2 (x+1) - 2^log2x = 2^3
(x+1) - x = 8
0 = 7

No solution ?

2. log(sub)4 (x+2) - log(sub)4 (x-3) = 2
4^log4(x+2) - 4^log4(x-3) = 4^2
(x+2) - (x-3) = 16
5 = 16

No solution?

This is a puzzle! Unless you are into this, it should be a neat exercise in internet research. It is being reposted because of questions seeking additional information. All responders to the earlier version were incorrect and ineligible for this one.

Complete Statement of the Problem: A regular convex solid has multiple (flat) faces and 2 inch edges. Five faces meet at each of twelve vertices. Compute the surface Area and Volume and name the solid.

First correct answer for A and V wins. Submit numerical answers to the question. (I can handle up to 12 digits plus a decimal point in the answer.) Don't ask or email me questions. Don't provide information (such as the name of the solid) that can tip off earlier answerers to something they may have missed.

To my knowledge, there is only one solid that meets the criteria. Your first submission is your answer. Emailed submissions disqualify the answerer - keep your answer where everybody can see it.

^^ according to this solution, which is velocity, the can will move to the right, but how can i prove that? we need to find something in common between all these relationships that prove it moves to the right.........
