Isn't the name of the country "United States"? Why do so many people call it "America"? "America" is the name of the continent, not the country. No offense whatsoever, just curious.

Are US citizens so arrogant as to think they are the only Americans that count as Americans, or so ignorant of geography that they actually believe the United States actually covers all of America.

As a US citizen myself I bristle when I hear the term American used in a manner to exclude Canadians, Mexicans, and residents of Central and South America. I find such use of the term American particularly offensive when used by educated people and people in high positions such as President Bush.

Do you think he /she or it, made the whole world, finished off with Scotland, got tired / fed up but had some stuff left over and decided to make England.

Not trying to insult anyone here, but has anyone noticed that, travelling down from Scotland, passing through the Borders, entering into England, the landscapes just disappear, and the horizon becomes a characterless wasteland!
