It's quite easy with so many people knowing virtually no geography.... some with the coolest names I can think of:

Tegucigalpa - the capital of Honduras
Antananarivo - the capital of Madagascar
Ouagadougou - the capital of Burkina Faso
Thiruvananthapuram - the capital of the Indian state of Kerala
Zhangaqazaly - a small city in Kazakhstan - would be great in scrabble!
General Eugenio A. Garay - the actual name of a city in Paraguay!

and finally... my favourite:

El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de la Porciuncula - OK, it's only LA but few people know the full name...

Ougadougou, capital of Burkina Faso.
Iritusk, Edo (old name of Tokyo), Kagoshima, Kuala Lumpur (capital of Malasia), Darwin and Alice Springs and Broken Hill (cities in Australia), Chongqing, Paris (Illinois), Kimball, Eep Alaska, Ogalala, Thermopolis, Vlavostock (Russian port in the Pacific), Oaxaca, Ur, Shishi, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Ulanbaatoor, Longyearbyan (in the island of Svalbard), Rock Springs Wyoming, Lime Village Alaska.

To name but a few. Most of them are major cities, too. Kuala Lumpur has the Petronas Towers, the 2nd largest towers in the world (losing to Taipei 101).

You asked for city and most people are naming very small backwater towns. Go figure. The inability for people to comprehend questions is simply astounding.

Personally, I'd say the capital cities of many countries in Africa...I've never heard of most of them!
