Almost. The "Darien Gap" is still mostly impassible. A group of British SAS guys did it, but that's saying like the Marines are surviving in Tora Bora, Afghanistan, so let's go there for Spring Break.

The Guinness Book of World Records, when considering new entries for driving the length of the Americas, accepts that you can't drive the whole way. They want surface shipping of one's car across the Darien Gap rather than air freighting it.

The story goes that Noriega (that guy we put into power until we invaded to force him out), never finished that bit of the Pan-American Highway because he wanted his cut of the drug trafficking. If you could drive a car or a semi from Columbia to LA, the cartels could cut him out of the picture.

From North America you might be able to drive
an amphibious car to South America. There is
still a gap in the Pan-American Highway that has
never been spanned. It is a marshy area in Panama, called the Darien Gap, as another answer indicates. You would need a very rugged
vehicle to make it. The only ways around the gap
are by ship or perhaps by beach driving, which
might not be possible all the way. An amphibious
vehicle might make it by taking to the water part
way.

From North America Yes but I wouldnt recomend it. The roads may not be safe or finnished. You could get robbed or just end up in a nasty place. Many websited suggest you have a guide with you when traveling this area of the world

Absolutely, Jim Rogers did it twice, once with a BMW bike and second with a special Mercedez car. He then wrote books about it. Lots of pics and stuff on his website:

It's possible but also dangerous. There are people along the way that way try to take your car and everything else away from you.

you'll choose a sturdy vehicle and a huge crew now to not be slowed down contained in the Darien hollow. except you've already pushed round countless something of the international, ignore it: you do not stand a risk.

It depends on your starting point. If you start from Hawaii, the answer is no. If you start from Canada, the answer is yes. That goes for anyplace in the US as well.
