Constantinople had been captured many times. It was a center of Christianity for a long time as the Eastern Roman Empire, but after Ottoman turks have captured it it became Muslim and remains so to this day.

it basicly was constintinople was the last bzytine stronghold after it was taken there was no more opposition in that area for a very long time.
