Specifically what qualitys of a vaccume tube give it the rich sound that solid state audio equipment often cannot duplicate? Its important to note that both transistors and tubes can spec. out the same and still differ.

I'm having a debate with my buddy. The riddle he gave me was this: What can be measured, but has no length, width or height?

I think that AIR/Oxygen can be an answer to this question. I know there can be others, but he doesn't think it can be air/oxygen.

I want to design a small circit.
Basically I want a timer, which when activated, counts from 1 to any variable (in this case lets say 100).

Each count should be 60 seconds apart, so we get a Beep or Buzz every 60 seconds. At each interval, I want a small display to count how many buzzes we have had, so at 30 minutes the display would say 30!

Simple. Or not??

I've built a few Maplin's kits in the past and I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, but I dont know anything about how to make things like this.

Any help would be great - or if you know of a pre-made time like this, that would also do.

There comes an insulation with the wires in the market (normally plastic). My question is there any magnetic field present outside that insulation when current is present.

like say, if a plane were to crash the pilot can flood the fuel tank with it and stop it from exploding or catching fire.

I want to find out atmospheric pressure in different parts of the Mediterranean (a map) , during the Messinian salinity crisis 51/2 million years ago, when the Gibraltar strait closed up and all the water evaporated in 1500 years. ( it stayed dry for 100. 000 years, with periodical flooding)

Suppose I know a static pressure at a valve when closed. Then suppose that the valve is opend slightly to give a flow rate and I manage to calculate the dynamic pressure at the valve.

Is the reduction in pressure at the valve calculated by taking the difference between the static and dynamic pressures? If not, can you point me in the right direction?

Was it just to p*ss people off when they realise they only have a Straight-edged, slotted screwdriver in their toolbox?
If Philips is the superior design, why hasn't the Slotted variety been slowly phased out of existence?

I asked a question last night about calcium sticking to pvc. Apparently it will. So my next question is how much build up on pvc can one expect compared to build up on steel.

For instance, say if 1/2" of scale would build up on steel in 6 months, how much would build up on pvc in the same time?

I have found lots about the first electric steam irons invented in the 1950s, but I can't find when the modern day irons, made of plastic, were invented. Does anyone have any ideas?!

I have to replace my beam over my garage door. It is a 16 ' wide openeing, 7 ' high. it is 2x4 construction.
It carries a approx 24 ' roof span and is load bearing the ends of the rafters. the rafters are approx 30' total span eave to eave.
I have access to a steel I beam that is well over 20 feet long,
10" high, 5 3/4 " across the flange, the flange is 3/8" think and the web is 1/4 inch wide. Will this beam work for my application?

The beam currently in place is a poorly constructed wooden structure, well below standard code, I beleve it is two 2x12" beams nailed together with plywood lining the inside. the neighbour two doors down built hbis house and his 12 ' door called for four 2/12's for his smaller span.

any help would be super !
Thanks
Derek
