I asked a question last night about calcium sticking to pvc. Apparently it will. So my next question is how much build up on pvc can one expect compared to build up on steel.

For instance, say if 1/2" of scale would build up on steel in 6 months, how much would build up on pvc in the same time?

Depends on flow rate and pressure available at the pump. There is a self scrubbing effect which will keep some scale from forming among other factors.

(RE: Ground Water treatment)
I have see Iron bases scales choke 1/1/2 inch PVC down to 3/4 inch or less. We would have to periodically water jet out the pipes using Roto-Rooter to remove the build ups at least once a year and sometimes twice a year.
