I have this question for MSE:

Coiled springs ought to be very strong and stiff. Si3N4 is a strong, stiff material. Would you select this material for a spring? Explain.

I looked up this material, and I found that it's very strong and stiff, and i figure it WOULD be good for springs, but when I researched it more, I realized that springs are rarely made of it and it's more often as plates, part bodies, screws, etc.

So does that mean it's not good for springs? Thats what I assume, but I don't see why not. Please help?

im making a prototype of an invention and i will be machining the parts with a lathe. the plastic should be soft and not brittle. Delrin, acrylic, and teflon ptfe rods are NOT an option. Unless otherwise convinced. dimensions for the parts are 21mm in Diameter so a 1" Diameter Rod will be acceptible.

well all know that inductor transformers don't work with dc currents and the battery is a dc power source and the ignition coil is an inductor transformer (just to start the engin it has to step up the voltage) so how does it convert the current from dc to ac to be compatiable with the ignition coil

My company has an insurance claim against damage caused by lightning. The insurers are claiming that the building is not earthed properly. But our building is properly earthed as we had an electrician come in and re-earthed the building a few months ago but the spike managed to pass thru both the electrical and telephone wires and damaged equipment such as: phones, TV sets that were turned off, Network Hub and CPU & Monitors that were using UPS, etc. Note the UPS are still working to date
