I need help with info on the mineral ruby. I need to know these things:

1. What year was the first ruby dicovered?
2. By whom?
3. Where can you find the mineral today? (States and countries)
4. What is ruby used for?
5. Is there a substitue mineral that can be used if we run out of ruby? (Yes or no)
6. Can you find ruby in California?

Yes, I did see the Mythbusters episode. But what are your opinions on the so-called "Whirlpools of Death", because at the velocity of the world's largest known whirlpool, Adam (one of the hosts of Mythbusters) would have more than survived with that equipment in that scaled-down version, although he did emerge with nausea... namely vomiting. Sorry, I am rambling. Your opinions on "whirlpools of death"?
