As I understand it, global warming will heat the planet, melt the ice caps, and turn the planet tropical. I would LOVE it here in New York if there were rain forests. Warmer water would mean coral could grow further from the equator. Gee, New York could be Aruba in a few years. So what exactly is the problem?

When you read about the pyramids in Giza or the Newgrange passage tomb in Ireland, it is always mentioned that they are perfectly "aligned with the sun". What does that mean?

I have read dozens of times that if the polar caps melt, it will raise sea levels by 10-50 feet.

Since 90% of the polar caps and iceburgs are underwater, and since ice takes up more space than water, wouldn't sea levels actually drop - or at least stay the same - if the polar regions melted?

I assume it's round. If the Earth turns out to be shaped like a pear or egg or cigar like, it makes little difference to the way I live my life. Nonetheless, I have not heard a better answer of PROOF than, "Because my 3rd grade teacher told me so" or "because of pictures (presumably) taken from the moon".
Has anyone proven for themselves that the Earth is round?

"I have more proof that God exists than I have proof that the Earth is round."

Imagine a large sphere the size of the moon in space. The sphere is completely hollow and the shell of the sphere has a thickness of one foot. Imagine that an object is placed somewhere in the sphere (not in the center). Does the object get pulled by gravity to the center of the sphere, towards the sides of the sphere, or does it not move at all?
