If there was such a thing as darkness, it would have to be faster than light, since it gets there before light does.

Darkness is just the inability of light to reflect off things. So yes, I think there is such a thing as darkness.

Since your question is in science, I'm guessing you're looking for a scientific answer, not a philosophical one. Darkness is just the absence of light. There is not thing that is darkness. Just as there is heat and not cold. Coldness is the absence of heat.
