banding in gneiss is due to the low grade metamorphism that takes place in the grainitic igneous rocks and other rocks as well & makes granite gneiss,which is totally different then the banding in sandstone.

banding in the sand stone is a depositional feature.deposition in the deep marine enviorment produces thick and massive bedding in sand stone.

banding is a feature in metamorphic rocks and bedding is the characteristics of the sedimentary rocks...

Banding in gneiss is due to heat and pressure causing the formation of new minerals. Bedding in sandstone is due to the lithification of sands due to the overlying burden, without changes in minerals. The former is a metamorphic rock and the latter is a sedimentary rock.

Beding is particles laid down origionally in layers. Banding is minerals rearranged into layers after formation through metamorphisis. There may have been no layering before.
