A Global Positioning System (GPS) is a device that uses sattelites to pinpoint your location anywhere in the world. They come as standard in some high-end cars and boats, although you can also get them in the form of palm sized gadgets, usually aprox the same size as a PDA.
Most GPS devices will display detailed maps of the area you are in, some will even give their user exact directions to any location they program into it. Handy if you're prone to getting lost or travel alot, but unnecessary otherwise.

It is Global Positioning System. A GPS for short. It is like a map on a computer type of system. It shows you on the screen, and where you are.

"GPS" or global positioning system is a series of sattelites launched by the US military to help soldiers and weapons know where they are on Earth.
There are 24 satellites broadcasting unique signals.
Your GPS handheld receiver picks up at least 3 signals and determines your lattitude, longitude, altitude, speed, direction, etc...
Since the US system was put into place, Russia and China have started similar systems.

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system of satellites the USA spent years launching. The military uses it to aim missiles with accuracy.... they say they can hit a gnat's ***, to put it in military lingo. It is also used in aviation to find the position of aircraft. I believe it is also used to keep track of freight lines. The list goes on.... it is a valuable tool in modern life.
