What are some simularities and differences betwee the pure copper penny and the copper/zinc penny? Why did they decide to change this? And how can you tell the difference (chemically and, hopefully, physically)?

Estimate pH at the equivalence point of the reaction between 0.100 M solutions of ethanoic acid (CH3COOH) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH).

The answer is: Greater than 7... about 9

I just need help on how I get the answer. I'd really really appreciate anybody who could help me out.

I got a Twizler and bit off the two ends to make a straw, then put it in my cola and drank through the twizler like a straw. After about 5 seconds, the pop fizzed up and began to overflowuntil I took the Twizler out. Then it calmed down. I put the Twizler back in, but I drank enough out to keep it from overflowing, but it still fizzed. what caused this?

If I were to take a bowlfull of petrol or some other highly flamable liquid.
Then I took a drop of very strong acid, and dropped it into the petrol.
Would the petrol combust?

Ammonia (NH3) acts as a base by bonding with H+ ions in a solution to form NH4+. This is different from other strong bases wich increase the ph level of a solution by contributing OH- ions.

Are there any acids that function by bonding directly with OH- much in the same way the ammonia bonds with H+?

This would effectively increase the ratio of H+ ions in a solution and lower the solutions ph. Such a substance would be considered acidic. Are there any real examples of such a substance?

I am looking for a website similar to www.chemfinder.com I am having problems accessing the website and I would like to find a similar site where you can find the formula or structure of an specific compound plus their properties by just putting the name in the search box.

Thanks in advance.

I have phosphate buffer that is pH 6.9-7.2 that I bring to pH 8.5 with hydroxide. The problem is that overnight the solutions saturate with CO2 and the pH drops to around 6.5 (the pKa of carbonic acid). I was considering using another buffer component, such as carbonate to hold the higher pH, thinking that added CO2 will now be less able to reduce the pH....any suggestions, experience or comments on this? The chemistry can't be altered too much, so I can't use exotic buffer components such as tris.

I'd like to take a 6% vinegar solution and get a 12%, but I'm not sure if simple reduction would yeild such a result. I would assume at some point the acid would begin to evaporate also, if direct heat is used....solar evaporation maybe??
