The sky is blue because the atmosphere absorbs most colors except blue and sends blue back to our eyes. At sunset when it has further to travel through the atmosphere, we will see a shift towards red sometimes.
The seas are blue for the same reason, You will never see the red shift in oceans though, sometimes a shift toward green caused by plankton in the water.

The seas are blue in colour because seas only reflect the blue colour of light.
Note: Light is composed of 7 colours:
VIBGYOR-Violet, Indigo, blue green, yellow, orange and red.
We are able to see the colour which is reflected by the object.

All the Above answers are crap..................
The sea appears to be blue due to the SCATTERING OF LIGHT..............
As the sunlight travels through the water...........which consists of large number of molecules of salt particles scatters the light.
the different wavelengths get scattered thru different amounts obeying Rayleigh's law of scattering .The intensity of the scattered light in a given direction is proportional to (1/wavelength).Hence the blue color predominates in a clear sea as the wavelength of blue is less than that of red .

During day time water bodies seem to be blue and during the night time it seem to be black. So from this we can understand water bodies are the reflection of sky. As you have learnt in Science, water bodies have no color.

Because, as scientists say, it's a reflection of the sky's colour.
And at night, you see the sea black, don't you? It happens for the same reason!

I don't think anyone really knows. But the going reason is because of the relfection between the sky and ocean. One or the other does it.
