if I have a nerve cell with a membrane potential of 0mV, and if I make it permeable only to Na+ ions. WHat would happen? Does it reach the membrane potential for Na+ and the stimulus goes on and on?

The food we eat provides the building blocks (e.g. amino acids and simple sugars) for making organic molecules and provides the energy for generating ATP. Humans would therefore be classified as:

A) Heterotrophs

B) Photoautotrophs

C) Chemoautotrophs

D) Photoheterotrophs

Now, I know it's not B) nor D) because humans do not use light to obtain energy, it's either A) or C) but which one?

The endosymbiosis theory suggests that mitochondria in eukaryotes originated when an archaeal cell engulfed a proteobacterium and retained the bacterium as an organelle. What evidence supports this theory for the origin of the mitochondrion?

It's multiple choice and the choices are:

a) The mitochondrion has a circular chromosome

b) The DNA in the mitochondrion is very similar to proteobacterial DNA suggesting recent common ancestry

c) The mitochondrion is replicated within the plant cell by binary fission.

d) All of the above

Heres the question: can a gene, be it one that causes a character trait or defect, die out? Or does it just become too recesive to be traced? With such a long history of humanity, I would think that some genes would have to die out and not be passed on to offspring. Please give a somewhat scientific answer, not just a "yes" or "no". Thanks in advance!

I am doing an introduction unit in biology on energy sources.
It would be helpful if you also answered these:
What is the energy source for a candle?
How is energy released in a candle, dead mouse, small plant and human being?
How do living things release energy that they need?

If natural selection exist, then eugenics would not be needed being that it is virtually the same.
