Ok, so I have been looking into this Mayan prediction that the world will end or be changed forever on 12/21/12 and I am not really sure what to believe. Has anyone ever heard of any other Mayan prediction that has come true?

I swear in my short lifetime there has been hundreds of false predictions of the earths demise I really just want to know why this is any different. The Mayans were very advanced for there time yet they where not even prepared for there own demise, so I find it strange that they are calling ours.

Could this just be the day they decided to stop witting or is there any type of scientific proof? I have heard the pole reversal theory and I geuss it is plausable.

I've been looking around at different sites, papers, and science magazines, and what they all have in common is that they all say the same things. In and about 2010-2012 we,that means us as a planet, will be heading into a very turbulent and energetic section of our universe. The ambient radiation of cosmic levels will be higher, more foreign objects such as meteors,or comets, and maybe rogue planets. It seems that science doesn't really know, but it's scary just the same.As far as locally, the Sun is going to go through the largest solar maximum ever recorded. In past maximums borialis phenomenon was at very high levels, and satellites were even knocked offline globally,as well as ground utilities in the west. This next one is supposed to be 50 times more powerful. Also the planet is going through a magnetic wobble, which may switch north and south poles. With all this information and no one really saying anything about it nationally, what are things we can expect to see going on in everyday life?

why are we spending time and money looking for life on mars, an obviously barren and lifeless planet. why dont we take a few years to develope a new, faster space probe that could make it to Gliese 581 c. sure it would take a long time, bt thats the best chance for life, titan and europa are decent chances, but cmon. if not now then when, if we want to find life outside of earth then we need to persue realistic planets, no matter how far away they may be.

I've heard that in our solar system there are no eliens.
Do you think there are eliens in onother solar system, and if they do exist why do they not contact with us? Because I am sure if they do exist their technology will be much higher than ours. why dont they just stay here for everybody to see.
And one more question if they do exist do you think they believe in god or in something else?

I want to study astronomy (stars, galaxies,comets... ) when i grow up. Does this mean that I'll be a physicist, astrophysicist or an astronomer. But I thought that astronomers actually go outside into space, not study them. I'll probably want to work for NASA, but what would I be doing in NASA? It's kinda complicated for me. Thanks for answering.

this was quite a few weeks ago, and there is probably no one that can give me this answer, but it doesnt hurt to try.

there was a program on either the discovery channel or the history channel (although im pretty sure it was discovery) that had a program about Stephen Hawking on it. during one part of the program it was talking about some dr. or someone that did psychological experiments on people in rooms or something...and i did not quite catch his name.

if anyone has seen the program or would somehow know this, it would really help cause i have been thinking about this for weeks and weeks. i know that its not really enough information, and ive tried checking the discovery website, but to no avail. so, please, dont give me answers about how you dont know. i just want some help!!! haha.

thanks in advance. (and good luck!)
